Korra Will Return

The Legend of KorraNickelodeon just made my summer. Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Avatar Korra will be back not only next year, but also for 26 episodes beyond that. Season 1, Book 1 ended with a one-hour finale on June 23. Book 2 will air in 2013 with 13 more episodes. Beyond that, Nickelodeon ordered 26 episodes that will presumably be split into Book 3 and Book 4.

I doubt The Legend of Korra, which is the sequel to Avatar: The Last Airbender, will go beyond Book 4. The original Avatar series had only three seasons, or Books, one for each element Aang had to master. Keeping a limit on the number of episodes allows the writers to plan a cohesive and compelling story, rather than dragging out storylines and boring the audience.

But what lies in store for Korra in the other Books? Amon is dead, thanks to Tarlok's sacrifice. Will each book feature a different villain for Korra to defeat? Or are we navigating into uncharted waters? The creators are so, well, creative, I wouldn't be surprised if The Legend of Korra winds up with a story structure that defies typical TV episodes.
