One way networks discover new animated comedies is by combing the Internet. The upcoming Annoying Orange on Cartoon Network was discovered on YouTube, and Atom TV on Comedy Central began on the Internet with its short animated comedies.
Now Jonathan Katz, a TV animated comedy veteran, presents his web series, Explosion Bus. The animated web series Explosion Bus is releasing new episodes of Season 1 on a weekly basis at ExplosionBus.com and YouTube. Created by Tom Snyder, the show stars stand-up comedians Jonathan Katz and Tom Leopold as they cross the nation with their homegrown traveling talent search, the Explosion Bus.
The first season is comprised of 21 five-minute episodes of semi-improvised episodes, which will be released through late July. Season 2 will follow in early August with a new animation style recently revealed in stand-alone "Live at the Teachers Lounge" shorts. Explosion Bus is a unique experiment in fan interactivity with viewer-submitted talent auditions supplementing each episode, and live action spin-off shows released between full episodes.
Jonathan Katz has appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and The Late Show with David Letterman, but is best known for voicing the lead character of the hit Comedy Central show Dr. Katz: Professional Therapist. Tom Snyder created the Emmy Award-winning Dr. Katz which aired for six seasons and featured countless comedians including Ray Romano, Conan OʼBrien, Jon Stewart and Louis C.K. Snyder also developed the Squigglevision animation style synonymous with Dr. Katz and later used in Home Movies, the hit show he produced, which featured the voice of Dr. Katz, Archer and Bob's Burgers, H. Jon Benjamin. Tom Leopold has written for many successful sitcoms including Seinfeld, Cheers and Ellen.
