New and Returning Cartoons for 20122013

DreamWorks DragonsBoth Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon recently held upfront presentations where they announced new and returning cartoons.

Cartoon Network hopes to premiere several new cartoons in the next year.

  • DreamWorks Dragons: The Series, based on the critically-acclaimed feature film, How to Train Your Dragon (also see Gift of the Night Fury)
  • An original series based on Web sensation, Annoying Orange
  • A brand new animated series from the franchise powerhouse, Ben 10: Omniverse
  • A new CG-animated series from Warner Bros. Animation, Beware The Batman
  • On the heels of the hugely successful Ninjago, a new partnership with LEGO for a second series was announced. (I doubt it's Star Wars since CN already has Star Wars: The Clone Wars.)

Cartoon Network also announced new upcoming seasons of Adventure Time, Regular Show, The Amazing World of Gumball, MAD, The Looney Tunes Show and a 5th season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

Nickelodeon will roll out a new roster of over 300 new animated episodes in 2012 which includes several new series.

  • The Legend of Korra, in which the mythology of the beloved animated franchise from Avatar: The Last Airbender creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko continues
  • Raving Rabbids, which brings to television the hysterical physical comedy that has become so popular in Ubisoft's Raving Rabbids video games
  • Monsters vs. Aliens, marking the third partnership between Nickelodeon and DreamWorks Animation, based on the popular characters from the 2009 hit feature film
  • Robot & Monster, a CG-animated buddy comedy is set in a unique world where robots and monsters live side by side, but typically don't get along
  • It's A SpongeBob Christmas!, Nickelodeon's first full-length stop-motion animated special
  • Seven new animation pilots picked up for the 2012-2013 season, including four pilots helmed by hit-maker Butch Hartman (The Fairly OddParents, T.U.F.F. Puppy)

Returning series include SpongeBob SquarePants, T.U.F.F. Puppy, Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness, The Penguins of Madagascar, The Fairly OddParents and The Winx Club.
