Both Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon recently held upfront presentations where they announced new and returning cartoons.
Cartoon Network hopes to premiere several new cartoons in the next year.
- DreamWorks Dragons: The Series, based on the critically-acclaimed feature film, How to Train Your Dragon (also see Gift of the Night Fury)
- An original series based on Web sensation, Annoying Orange
- A brand new animated series from the franchise powerhouse, Ben 10: Omniverse
- A new CG-animated series from Warner Bros. Animation, Beware The Batman
- On the heels of the hugely successful Ninjago, a new partnership with LEGO for a second series was announced. (I doubt it's Star Wars since CN already has Star Wars: The Clone Wars.)
Cartoon Network also announced new upcoming seasons of Adventure Time, Regular Show, The Amazing World of Gumball, MAD, The Looney Tunes Show and a 5th season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
Nickelodeon will roll out a new roster of over 300 new animated episodes in 2012 which includes several new series.
- The Legend of Korra, in which the mythology of the beloved animated franchise from Avatar: The Last Airbender creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko continues
- Raving Rabbids, which brings to television the hysterical physical comedy that has become so popular in Ubisoft's Raving Rabbids video games
- Monsters vs. Aliens, marking the third partnership between Nickelodeon and DreamWorks Animation, based on the popular characters from the 2009 hit feature film
- Robot & Monster, a CG-animated buddy comedy is set in a unique world where robots and monsters live side by side, but typically don't get along
- It's A SpongeBob Christmas!, Nickelodeon's first full-length stop-motion animated special
- Seven new animation pilots picked up for the 2012-2013 season, including four pilots helmed by hit-maker Butch Hartman (The Fairly OddParents, T.U.F.F. Puppy)
Returning series include SpongeBob SquarePants, T.U.F.F. Puppy, Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness, The Penguins of Madagascar, The Fairly OddParents and The Winx Club.
